Clytha Castle

Reviews:

- Linda McGowan: One of our favourites: the buildings, the rooms (especially the 'Traviata' bedroom) , the stunning view, even the all-pervasive sheep. The drawing-room in the square tower is outstanding and the furniture particularly appropriate. We were there in September so could still sit outside in the early evening to enjoy the view. In fact the view is too well-known to keep to yourself: you'll get uninvited visitors appreciating it too (a footpath passes the estate) -but not so much during weekdays. I think this one could be cold in winter (the round bedroom is naturally chilly always, it seems) but the overall effect of grandeur and its quality and the romantic stone spiral staircase and that VIEW will compensate. The 'Clytha Arms' is an excellent pub and restaurant - good food but rather slow service and booking is essential. A stroll away up the hill. Possibly the pub building was once part of the Clytha estate too?
