The Library

...offers high quality interior decoration, a large garden, open log fire, and
great views over the landscape of Devon. There's also the Orangery in which
two people can sleep, but it is unheated. If you're looking for a quiet and
charming property, the Library is first class.

The brochure does not do justice to The Library. It's a mile down a
private road and then the library sits behind a 15/20ft high wall, in
its "enclosed garden". This is actually a former arboretum and deserves
the description grounds. These end in a Ha-Ha beyond which rolling
countryside extends to the horizon. Not a road in sight: wonderful. The
peace was only disturbed by the sound of lawn mowers. The gardener,
Walter, spent most of our few days there cutting the grass, and the
owners of the ruined main house cut their bit over a couple of days as
well.
North Devon seemed poor and run down to us but we were happy to spend a
lot of time sitting in the vast main room just enjoying the building,
the peace and the view.
