Swarkestone Pavillion

Reviews:

(Provided by Rainer Schuldt) - Curious property situated in the south of Derby near the river Trent. The Pavilion is the only building remaining of the Swarkestone mansion.Simple furniture, beds in the living room, and if you want a bath you've to cross the open roof, but the Pavilion is nevertheless quite cosy. Good starting point for visits at Chatsworth and Hardwick Hall, also the Peak District is nearby.

(Provided by Lucy and Simon Jones) - Really quite, quite wonderful. We spent a glorious few days there August/September 2002 and I cried when we left. It was so atmospheric. The bathroom is fantastic. Lots of spiders about. Large piece of ground at the front - Logbook full of entries recording times for running across, touching a gate and returning to the Loggia. One Logbook entry recommended a small picnic table - agree this would be a good idea. On the negative side try to avoid the time when the local farm is harvesting as a noisy (baling?) machine was operational all night. Also the A50 has quite a noisy road surface and traffic can be heard at all times. There is nothing in Derby but lots of interesting places nearby and very easy walking along the canal side.
