My very first instrument is the Piano which I started since I was 4. Although I was sort of forced to learn it at that early age, I gradually became very interested in music. My aunt who graduated from Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London (Piano, Composition and Voice Major) was and still is my greatest inspiration in pursuing Music. Both my parents, too were singers but due to the lack of support back home, they were unable to pursue further. I started my first voice lesson with my beloved aunt at the age of seventeen and never stop singing since.

In 1991, I went to the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, P.R. China. There I studied voice with the Chairman of the Voice Department Professor Li XinChang and Piano with Professor Tai Er. Although the life there wasn't too ideal, I learned a great deal from both of them. I also met 2 of my very special friend there in Beijing ->Shiao Hung and Shiao Wei. In 1992, I won the Asian Vocal Competition held in Taipei and I am the youngest to win the title. In 1993 I was accepted to The Juilliard School (The School of my dream) and was there since.

My first 4 years of undergraduate studies was very intense and helpful. Lots of knowledge inputs. My voice teacher was Mr. Robert White whom I really adore. In 1995, I also won the Artistic Achievements Award (1st Prize) given to Chinese-Americans with outstanding performance in the field of Performing Arts by Hennesy Cognac. In 1994, I first met one of my greatest idol - Marilyn Horne - in a competition in Erie, PA. Now, she is one of my greatest mentor. In the first year of my Masters Degree in The Juilliard School, I studied with Mr. Edward Zambara, whom I have learned so much at Santa Barbara, Music Academy of the West. It is also at the Academy that I won the Marilyn Horne Foundation Award. At the present, I have just got my Master of Music from Juilliard and continuing my Professional Studies with W Stephen Smith.
