Howdy, my name is Chandra Boley and I live in Panama City, Fl. I am an eleventh grader at Rutherford High School, (GO RAMS!) where the band is one of the best in the land. I am the 1st chair alto saxophone in the Wind Ensemble (top notch band baby!) and I am also section leader of the saxes in the marching band, which has won numerous awards for it's excellence. Aside from school, I am in a jazz orchestra called the Opti-Mystics (see links). Last year we took 1st place in a national competition down in Orlando. At school, I have my fun in the IB program, which you can learn all about down below on my links. It is real great. (sarcasm) The work might be a little harder than normal, but you gain a close knit family of kids your age in the process of learning. On the side, I have a very special person in my life, Taylor, who always makes me smile. :-) Thanks for visiting my site!

Why Music?

  1. Music is a science.

      • It is exact specific, and it demands exact acoustics. A conductor's full score is a chart, a graph which indicates frequencies, intensities, volume changes, melody, and harmony all at once with the most exact control of time.

    • Music is mathematical.

      1. It is rhythmically based on the subdivisions of time into fractions which must be done instantaneously, not worked out on paper.

    • Music is a foreign language.

        • Most of the terms are in Italian, German, or French; and the language is certainly not in English--but a highly developed kind of shorthand that uses symbols to represent ideas. The semantics of music is the most complete and universal language.

  • Music is history.

      • Music usually reflects the environment and times of its creation, often even the country and or racial feeling.

    • Music is physical education.

        • It requires fantastic co-ordination of fingers, hands, arms, lip, cheek, and control of the diaphragmatic, back, stomach, and chest muscles, which respond instantly to the sound the ear hears and the mind interprets.

      • Music develops insight and demands research.

        • Music is all of these things, but most of all, MUSIC IS ART.

          • It allows a human being to take all these dry technically boring (but difficult) techniques and use them to create emotion. That is one thing science cannot duplicate: humanism, feeling, emotion, call it what you will. That is why: MUSIC

            That is why: MUSIC

            • Why?
              • so you will be human
              • so you will recognize beauty
              • so you will be closer to God beyond this world
              • so you will have something to cling to
              • so you will have more love, more compassion, more gentleness, more good --in short, more life.

--Thank you Mr. "D" for this lovely piece of poetry.

What you are listening to is a song that I play in the Opti-Mystics called "Night Train". It has a good bluesy feel to it. Enjoy! 1
