Ludwig or
Premier Timpani's, which do you think have the greater range?
'
On the market and used in many places around
the worked are several types of Timpani's. Two of the most commonly found
types are Premier and Ludwig. Percussionists around the world have very
different opinions on each of these brands. Throughout the industry there
are many differences that are greatly spoken about. The major discussion
point is concerning the difference in range in each of the brands. After
researching this, interviewing people and putting theories into practice
it was in fact discovered that Premiers are said to come out on top on
this department. The Premier range are much greater meaning that on one
timpani you can tune in more notes to a satisfactory standard. So a timpanist
who works very closely with Ludwig would, to get the same amount of notes
that a percussionist using Premiers gets, would have to have many more
times. Though as you can see this is a down side to Ludwig timpani's on
the market today though there are many advantages. For example the pedals
are considered by many and our team as much more, "user friendly". This
is so as then pedals are much easier to position and position with accuracy,
which is very important. Though when comparing instruments it all comes
down to the sound quality. In this department people around the world have
over the years become attached to the warm, full sounds in which that Ludwig
timpani's make, if in the right range. We can babel on about the ranges
though a lot of it comes down to the player. This is so as it is there
responsibility to make a right decision relating to which notes should
be tuned to certain timpani's, after all...we are in control.
The finest Ludwig timps around!!!
