All About Olivier

ell, seeing as you asked, my name is Olivier - just to make certain that all is perfectly lucid - and I am currently a student at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. I am a piano performance major there, with a double major in musicology. My piano professor is Lydia Frumkin, a native of Russia (she's the greatest!). So, as I was saying, I am a piano person. My favorite composer is ... well, if you haven't figured it out by now, then may I please refer you to my Main Page. Yes, I love everything that has ever flowed from his pen (with a very few forgetable lapses in judgement - *cough* 4th piano concerto *cough*). But other than that I cannot truly say that I am ever dissapointed when I listen to Rachmaninov's Music. I am very proud to state that I own everything that he has ever written which has been recorded. I tend to perform a lot of Rachmaninov, too. Fortunately for me, I was blessed with hands about as big as those of the master himself - I can reach a 12th. To date, I must say that the most gratifying of his works that I have performed is the set of Variations on a Theme of Corelli, Op.42, his last solo work for piano. But in any event, I seem to be digressing - as a have a very bad habit of doing, by the way. Some other of my favorite composers are Maurice Ravel, Francis Poulenc, and Gustav Mahler. Then again, I am quite generally infatuated with everything that is Russian, I suppose it's because I'm French.

Oh, I suppose that I hadn't mentioned that to you yet. Well, as you could probably tell from my very non-American name, I am indeed French. NO, I AM NOT FROM CANADA!. But to confuse the issue just a little bit more, my mother is British, my father, French, but, I was born in Geneva, Switzerland. I know, I know, this is where I lost people all the time. Oh well, I suppose that none of that is terribly important at the moment, anyway. But, in any event, I am now living in the United States, and most definitely have become an "East Coast" person, which shouldn't come to such a halting surprise when taken into account that I do live there. And, now, I am in the lovely state of Ohio - NOT!. Well, I suppose that I cannot say too many terrible things about this state ... perhaps it's just the weather ... or the bad scones ... I mean, what is there not to like about a state from which you can see all the way to Alabama? Ok, ok, I'll just stop right there...

Oh, oh! This is the part where I am supposed to put in a plug for the school that I used to go to. This is to say that I went to a boarding school in Connecticut after I moved to the [United] States. In any event, I went to the Avon Old Farms School... for boys. now, you just stop it right there, because it's not true! But nonetheless, it was - and still is - a very good school, tucked away in the back woods of Avon and Farmington, CT. You should check out their new web site, just to take the "campus tour", I think that you shall agree that it is a rather beautiful place. So anyway, at this point in time, it is my formal obligation to urge anyone who is an alumni of A.O.F. - and who just so happens to be reading this right now - to send your check in!, because I did, and ... and, well, it would be good karma or something - unlike stealing for instance... now, now boys and girls, one should never steal, because that's bad! well, in any event, what else could I possibly share with you...?

Well, I think that I have divulged quite an intersting portion of Olivier Facts for one day - other than the rather important issue concerning clothes. You know, if there is one thing about this state, it's that there simply aren't enough good clothing boutiques! You, know, that's enough to just make someone !@#$%&* Well, I mean, is it so much to ask for a Polo Ralph Lauren store, even just one?! It's a scandal! It's an outrage! There are simply a few things that I cannot live without in life, and among them are fine clothes, fresh coffee, good food, vintage wine, a nice cigarette, and of course, great music...

ta ta!
