Jeff Mattsey made his operatic debut in 1986 as Marcello opposite Luciano Pavarotti in La Boheme with the Opera Company of Philadelphia. Since that time he has appeared in such roles as Figaro in the Barber of Seville;, The Count in Mozart's the Marriage of Figaro, Mercutio in Romeo and Juliette, and Sharpless in Madama Butterfly. A versatile actor, Mr. Mattsey finds himself equally comfortable in both comic roles, such as Papageno, and the more serious, like the subdued Sharpless. He joined the roster of the Metropolitan Opera in 1997, and made his house debut there in 1998 in that seasons production of The Tales of Hoffman. Upcoming engagements include a return to the MET for performances of Mercutio in Romeo and Juliette, Silvano in The Masked Ball, Schaunard in La Boheme, Figaro in The Barber, and coverages in Peter Grimes and The MagicFlute. |
