Soar Sweet Sparrow
Soar, sweet sparrow, through the skies
Enjoy the freedom of your wings
Soar with every bird who flies
Then return to your wife who sings.
I will watch from my window
Where I sit behind shining bars
I watch sun shine and moon glow
Just watching so near, yet so far.
I sing for those who cage me
I sing for it is my only joy
Pretty song, it has trapped me
Pretty song, delightful, yet coy.
I long to leave my prison
To sing for the joy of singing
Confinement's pain has risen
More now my song should go winging.
Soar, sweet sparrow, through the skies
While my wings only go to waste
Soar with every bird who flies
Of such a life, I get no taste.
