The Koontz family "roots" go back to Page County, Virginia. Our great grandparents, along with other related families, migrated to Jasper Co., IL. in the mid 1800's. According to the book, Andrew and Julia arrived in Jasper Co. separately and were married in Jasper Co., where they lived their whole lives. They had eleven children.

Sometime in the 1880's, our grandfather (John Philip) and two brothers, David and George, moved to Kansas. Grandpa settled in Reno county, where he farmed. He married our grandmother in 1892. According to my mother, they were married in Nebraska, but at that time, they both lived in (or near) Hutchinson KS. Grandma and Grandpa and their children lived in Reno County until 1910, when they moved to a farm near Lamar, Colorado. After Grandpa retired from farming, they moved to La Junta, CO.
