Perkepine

This is the spelling of the name as listed in the "History of the Descendants of John Koontz". It seems that nobody in the family spelled the name in the same way, and different variations can be found in records of each individual. Mary Ann's name, for instance, has also been spelled "Perkipine", "Perkeypile", etc. The name was eventually shortened to "Purkey". According to information I have found on the Internet, Mary Ann's ancestors were Mennonites or "Anabaptists" who had fled religious persecution in Europe.
