There are some amongst us who never give a thought as to what the future might bring. And continue to live with the belief that our children will certainly provide the succour we need in our old age.

And when it does not happen, we're shattered. With neither financial nor emotional support, we come to cross-roads in life. It is then that institutions like Vishranthi come to our rescue.

How?

By providing a roof over our heads. Along with love, affection and care.

How does 'Vishranthi' work?

Vishranthi came into existence in 1978 when a voluntary organisation of housewives called the Monday Charity Club, decided to provide the sustenance to aged women. Starting out with only one inmate in a rented house at Chromepet, Vishranthi today has over 100 people and has moved into a one-acre plot at Palavakkam.

Today, Vishranthi has solar heaters, gas cylinders and industrial ovens, which provide the energy for hot water and cooking at the campus. Freedom of action being the guiding philosophy at Vishranthi, the Campus mates take stints at gardening, nursing, tailoring or cooking. By this, every individual at Vishranthi develops the feeling that it is her home - particularly in the absence of her "rest" home.

A typical day at Vishranthi

6.00 AM	Washing
6.30 AM	Tea and Kitchen work
7.00 AM	Bathing, cleaning and occupation therapy
9.00 AM	Gruel made of ground pulses and cereals served
9.30 AM	Bhajan
12.00 Noon	Lunch and rest
3.00 PM	Handicraft
4.30 PM	Tea and snacks followed by Bhajan
5.30 PM	Entertainment and Recreation

Who manages Vishranthi?

The Vishranthi Charitable Trust manages the funds and buildings of Vishranthi. Every two years, the Trustees are elected by the members of the Monday (Charity) Club. Various Shramdhan Committees have been formed to take care of the various aspects of running the home - efficiently and viably.

Where do I fit into all this?

With greater number of people knocking at the doors of Vishranthi - we need your help to maintain and extend the facilities to more people. You can help in any single way which you can afford.

Donations in kind are also welcome. You can bring in foodgrains, clothing, toiletries or medicines for the people at Vishranthi. For citizens of India, donations to the Vishranthi Charitable Trust are exempted under Section 80 G of the Income Tax Act, 1961. People who wish to donate using cheques can please make it in favour of "Vishranthi Charitable Trust" and post it to the administrative office or the home (address given below).
