Khasansky Region

Population is 44,000 people.

The Khasansky Region occupies the southwestern part of Primorye and borders with China and Korea. One side of it is washed by the waters of the Gulf of Peter the Great.

The nature of this Region is very beautiful and unique. Almost the whole territory is a kind of nature preserve. Kedrovaya Pad (Cedar Valley) Nature Preserve, established to protect the natural complexes of South Primorye, is located in the Region. In 1978 the Far Eastern Marine Nature Preserve was established in the Khasansky Region to protect the unique underwater world of the Gulf of Peter the Great where more than 2,000 species of invertebrate animals including "Sea Ginseng" - trepang, approximately 300 fish species, larga-seal, and others are found, and inhabitants of the coastal zone and the islands.

There are deposits of precious metals and construction sand, and a widely known Gusevskoye (Geese) Deposit of porcelain stone which is used by the Porcelain of Primorye Works in the Region.

Fishery and Ship Repair dominate the Region's economy. Mariculture development, medical sanitary bases establishment and high class tourism development are considered prospective here. Agriculture is specialized in breeding of animals for furs. There are sea ports, Posyet and Zarubino, and the transport passages with China and North Korea. This Region is known worldwide due to its unique economic and geographic position, and the prospects of the Tumangan Project realization.
