Partizansk Population

As of January 1, 1996 the population of Partizansk reached 61,500 people, including 29,700 men and 31,800 women.

Most of the population (59.1%) lives in the town itself and in Uglekamensk, Avangard (Avant-Garde), and Tigrovy (Tiger) settlements, the rest are living in Kazanka, Brovnichi, Melniki, Zalesye, Khmelnitskoye, and Serebryanoye (Silver) settlements. In the recent years the population of Partizansk does not grow. While in Soviet times about 1,000 children were born annually (16 per 1,000 people), now the birth-rate is 9.6 per 1,000 people (average Province birth-rate is 10.0 per 1,000 people). Mortality increased significantly. Current death-rate in the town is 19.9 per 1,000 people (average Procince mortality is 13.7 per 1,000 people). The reason is sharp increase of sickness rate, significant reduction of standard of living, lack of financing of medical establishments.

There are 17 medical and profilactical facilities in the town and nearby settlements. They include 6 hospital-polyclinic complexes, as well as a railway department hospital, 8 assistant-obstetric stations, and 2 first-aid stations.

For the several years already a Social Protection Service has been functioning. It cares of 600 needy citizen (mostly elder people), and the total amount of watched is almost 5,000 people.

The population of Partizansk gets considerably older. There are 18,015 pensioners here, and only 1,595 sudents and 12,269 high-schoolers.

National structure is very diverse. There are 54,254 Russians, 2,927 Ukrainians, 453 Byelorussians, 66 Moldavians, 68 Bashkirs, 607 Mordvinians, 1,115 Tartars, 71 Germans, and almost 1,000 Koreans in Partizansk.

Economically active populations counts 31,700 people (51,5% of the total population). 28,400 people are employed.Half of the economically active population is working on large and average enterprises.

There are about 3,000 officially registered unemployed (10% of the econimically active population). There is a center of population employment, which tasks include the registration of the unemployed, their training, help with employment, creation of new work places.
