Partizansk - What to See

There are not very many interesting places in Partizansk to see. But the few that exist still deserve to be described here.

A real town cultural center is the town museum. It holds the documents and relics of the Revolution times, of the Great Patriotic War, of the cultural and economic development of the town since the first mine foundation till now. The museum has an excellent nature hall, the layout of which was renewed in honour of the 100th anniversary of Partizansk. There is a collection of I.F. Palshkov's pictures in the museum. This collection was donated to the museum by his family. An exhibition hall has been functioning for the several years already. Here the pictures of local artists and pictures of the artists from other cities and towns, as well as children's art works, are being exhibited.

A park of culture is the favorite place of leasure of the townspeople. It was built in 1951-1955 under the guidance of V.F. Garbar, who was a director of the park during the Great Patriotic War. In this park there are trees of every breed that grow in the Province. Folk outdoor parties are usually held in the park. Unfortunately, not all of the park facilities are being used. There are also a stadium and sport halls in the town.

There are many memorial places in the town. They are related with the history of the mines, with the revolutionary past, with the Great Patriotic War, and with the town development.

One of such memorial places is the Memorial Partizanskoy Slavy (the Partisan Fame Memorial). It was erected in 1946 according to the engineer N.S. Ryabov project and originally stood in the Miners' Palace of Culture public garden. Later it was moved to the Partizanskaya Sopka (Partisan Hill) peak. Here 22 partisans who fighted against the White Guards and the Japanese interventionists died.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of Partizansk an obelisque-monument of metal and granite was erected. In honor of the 30th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War at the foot of the monument the Eternal Fire was ignited. The plaque of the obelisque says "People, while your hearts are beating, remember at what price the happiness was achieved. 1941-1945. May 9, 1975".

In 1985 in the "Yubileyny" (Jubilee) public garden near the "Tsentralnaya" (Central) a memorial monument to the warriors of the Great Patriotic War was erected. On the high pedestal there is a warrior figure in the ground sheet, and on the both sides of the monument the names of those who had not returned from the battle field are carved. There are names of about 3,000 people from Partizansk. This memorial was erected in honor of the 40th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
