A Singaporean, born and bred, I am an experienced manager and marketer in my early thirties, and I have had to work my way up through the ranks. Along the way, I have picked up a whole host of skills and contacts and at one time, was the youngest corporate level manager not only in my company, but the industry back in Singapore.
I must confess that I owe a great deal of my exposure to my then mentor, Francis Chang, the General Manager of the group (he is currently somewhere in Perth, I believe), who singled me out and presented me with every opportunity to prove myself. For that, I owe him a debt of gratitude. (Francis, if you ever do come across this, thank you sir, and do get in touch with me). Together, we managed to lead the organisation into a leadership position, as determined by the principal, Apple South Asia.
In terms of my strengths, I am considered to be an effective communicator and motivator. This is borne out my the fact that my former staff are still in touch today, even though I am seven thousand kilometres away. I am creative and although unafraid of challenges, am not foolhardy.
I have worked in the computer industry, both in Singapore and Vietnam (where I was responsible for setting up operations); and the advertising and creative industry.
Having decided to explore other fields of endeavor (I would like to get in the marketing of FMCGs), I found many doors closed due to the lack of formal academic qualifications. Consequently, I found myself with no option but to pull up all my roots and liqidate my assets in order to finance my studies. I am currently completing a Master of Business Administration Degree with a Marketing Specialisation at Griffith University in Queensland, Australia.
I shall finish in June and hope to locate a career opportunity here in Australia. Objectively, the company should take advantage of my asian roots and use me to faciliate their penetration into ASEAN markets.
