MIS Program at IBA

Based on the above philosophy, Management Information Sciences (MIS) program of the Center for Computer Studies at IBA has especially been designed to fulfill job market requirements of businesses that are using IT for business advantage. Its curriculum offers a balanced mix of computer and business courses designed for the job market that requires planners, implementers and managers of Information Technology (IT) solutions. MBA (MIS) program is a two-year full-time program for graduates. BBA Honors (MIS) is a new three-year full-time executive program for students with HSC and A-levels. BBA (MIS) graduates can complete MBA (MIS) after another year of studies. PGD (Computer Science) is an evening part-time diploma program for working graduates.

What is MIS Specialization

MIS graduates not only study computer systems, software, databases and network technologies, but also, how these can be applied to solve the business administration issues in marketing, finance, manufacturing, and human resource management.

MIS specialization acts a bridge between two worlds, the world of computers and the world of business. It does so by imparting knowledge in three critical areas: Firstly, knowledge of current and emerging information technologies like computer hardware, software, databases and networks. Secondly, knowledge of business administration issues in marketing, finance, manufacturing and human resource management. Last, but not the least, translation and application of information technologies for business advantage.

MIS Curriculum

MIS Curriculum is especially designed for the information management requirements of the businesses. It offers a balanced mix of computer courses and business courses.

Computer related courses are grouped in four areas; computer technologies, systems development, spectrum of information systems applications, and management of information systems. Computer technology courses include computer systems, databases, computer networks, and object-oriented technology. Systems development courses include software projects and quality management, analysis and design, off-the-shelf package implementation, and programming courses in OOP, 4GL environments, visual and high level languages. Information management courses include computer applications to business, information systems management, Business Process Modeling and Reengineering, Decision Support Systems (DSS), and Expert Systems.

Business related courses are grouped in the areas of accounting, management, marketing, finance, and economics. There is now special emphasis in these courses on marketing information systems, manufacturing information systems, financial information systems, accounting information systems, and economic and business modeling.

Computer Studies at IBA

IBA started offering computer courses like Electronic Data Processing in the mid-sixties. In 1983, Center for Computer Studies (CCS) was setup at IBA in collaboration with IBM.
