Williston, Vermont, USA....
And for those of you who've been asking is it 'like Australia'?..well, YES....and...NO!!
And there is going to be a LOT to tell you about, I promise!!
Well, folks, I finally made it to the 'States, though it looked like touch and go for a while...
Two hours in an airline queue in a closed plane on a hot tarmac is no fun..especially when they run out of tonic by row 18 once we get going..and don't come near me again with the alternate mixers they promised....YES, FOLKS, you CAN drink gin just with ice if you are thirsty enough!!
And to those of you asking, 'Are you still coming home early?', the answer is 'Probably not'..
And to those asking about the weather the answer is "BEAUTIFUL!!!"!
And for the next couple of days I am going to play the summer holiday maker and swim and read and walk a lot,
and at night I will work on seriously updating this page to reflect my new status as a dignified Oldie In the USA!
Which apparently is how I come across.." dignified but still fun-loving.."(Lady J)
Hmm..guess you CAN still fool some of the people some of the time...
Lady J..I think that description will never fit YOU!!!
But on the flight to the States, my travelling partner was a seriously handsome,
seriously charming (try GORGEOUS??) Portuguese Nato Officer en route to Washington, using the smallest
fully programmed computer I have ever seen..which, of course, I had to ask about..
And he was very happy to discuss Belgian Bureaucracy with me, too, which passed the long flighttime very
pleasantly...
Do you know that man even managed to SLEEP handsomely...none of the chin-dropping, mouth open stuff...
Perhaps Australians DO have something to learn from Europe after all..
And now my current stop in Vermont, having already met Rudco and Lady J and Beth
from my chatroom, and with a frig and a microwave and a coffeemaker and a balcony and a balcony chair..
and with the sun right out in a blue sky the way we do it in Australia, and lots of space, and people driving slowly..well, life might be looking up....
Course...first there was the domestic terminal of Dulles Airport in Washington..on a Saturday....Aagghh!!!
For a while there, American looked like anything but "The Land Of The Free!" and I took some photos to
remind myself, later..
And then I found my plane to Vermont had propellors, and if we ditched over water, the flotation device was the cushion one was sitting on...
But that is another story....
as is the description of my starknaked 2am battle with the bathplug that wasn't and the shower that didn't.....
But this is America, where the plumbing is way ahead of ours...and everything was working perfectly in that bathroom.....one just has to learn to think LATERALLY!!..
Now that the honeymooners are back at work in Kuala Lumpur, I can get on with
the holiday part of my trip...
But if you want to see photos of the happy couple in their two wedding ceremonies,
check out the back issues of this page below..
