HELP! How to find Prof. Thompson
There comes a time--or times!--in almost every student's life when s/he needs to find the professor outside of class meetings. For some reason, this usually happens:
- about 15 minutes after the end of the last scheduled office hour of the week
- sometime after 1 a.m.
Have no fear! Thanks to modern technology, with only a minimal amount of effort on your part, you'll learn that it's not at all difficult to reach me--and that I'll normally be able to get a response to you within a very short time. Here are some options:
- Drop by my office hours.
My office is: 526 Eggers Hall; my scheduled office hours are: Tuesday & Thursday, 2:45-4 p.m. I'm also happy to make an appointment for another time if you can't come during these hours. Just see me in class, or call or e-mail me.
- Use the telephone.
If it's during my office hours, you can reach me at my office extension: x. 5882; otherwise leave a message at the History Department: x. 2210. If it's really an emergency, you can call me at my home: 445-0637, where there also is an answering machine. I also can receive faxes at this number--but please remember that even professors keep relatively regular hours and need to sleep. It's not a good idea to call or fax either after 10 p.m. or before 7:30 a.m. (later on weekends)!
- Use E-Mail.
I check my e-mail regularly--usually at least twice a day: msthom1@ibm.net. If you e-mail me, be sure to sign your message with your full name, as well as the e-mail address or phone number where you'd like me to respond.
- Leave me a note.
You can leave me a note in my mailbox in the History Department (145 Eggers), or on/under my office door. However, this is probably the least efficient way to find me--because it presumes I'm going to check those places! So, please use the methods above for best results.
