Placenta Abruptio:

| Main Menu | Complications |

Placenta abruptio is where the placenta separates from the uterus prematurely. There is an increase risk in hemorrhaging during pregnancy and during childbirth. Women are generally put on bed rest and restriction of physical activities if the separation is small. If the separation is more severe, a blood transfusion (given blood) may be necessary. Sometimes a cesarean may need to be performed immediately.
