Hot Spots:

During labor if a woman has had an epidural or spinal block, she may have pain in one area of her abdomen. This area is called a hot spot. It is usually round and about the size of a grapefruit. The pain may feel like you are having contractions only in this area.

Many women do have some type of a hot spot during labor, but not all women. This pain is nothing compared to the pain of labor without anesthesia.

If the pain continues to bother you during labor, have the nurse give you some pain reliever in your IV, increase epidural medications, turn on the side that is experiencing the pain or try to use breathing techniques.
