Lamaze (Breathing Techniques):

| Main Menu | Childbirth Information |

Lamaze is a breathing technique that helps a woman focus her attention on her body rather than the pain of contractions during childbirth.

First, you will want to get your breathing baseline. This should be done before childbirth begins to familiarize yourself with your breathing. To do this lay your hand on your abdomen (upper or lower) and breath normally. Concentrate on how you are breathing. Now either you or a partner can count how many times you breathe in one minute. This is your breathing baseline (average).
