Some Stuff You Probably Didn't Know (And Wish You Did) About Romania
Romania is in southeastern Europe and is the largest nation in the Balkan Peninsula, although it's slightly smaller than Oregon! Bucharest's temperatures in July average at 73 degrees (their warmest month) and 27 degrees in January (their coldest month). However, when I was in Romania, it was so hot, my boots were sticking into the asphalt. If I stood in one place for too long, I would have been stuck!
Recreation
Their favorite spectator sport is soccer, the government has built soccer stadiums in the larger cities and organized leagues. The teenagers I met love volleyball also.
Food
Romanian cuisine has traditions borrowed from Turkish and Greek cooking. I experienced some interesting things in my homestay, such as my friend happily spreading lard from a jar onto some of their awesome bread, which is (in my opinion) the best part of the meal. She said her favorite meal is lard and onions. I tried to smile, but I think she understood and asked why I did not like it. I replied that my family drains the lard and throws it away. After I said that though, it made me feel pretty wasteful.
They eat lots of veggies like peppers and tomatoes. The main meal is eaten at noon or one o'clock, which consists of soup, bread, some kind of meat, and a great cucumber salad. My friend stayed at a woman's house, and I hear all she made them was fried food. She says it was really great too:)
Well, I think that's all you need to know about Romania for now! Hopefully you were able to get something out of this. I wish I had a scanner so I could show you some pictures from my trip. Maybe someday soon!
