Act 2, Scene 8 -- Early 1980's; the students of Edmonton are in the commons, cramming for finals.

Jon: The sons of the Hippopotamus hide are equal to the sum of the sons of the remaining two hides.
Wendy: The Pythagorean Theorum related to African culture?

[Dan and Robin enter, more than a little wired from a Vivarin binge]

Jon: [disappointed] You've heard that one too? Darn, I need new material.
Wendy: Oi veh!
Dan: Don't say that! Every time you say "Oi veh," a rock falls in Jerusalem.
All: OI VEH!!!
Robin: Well, I'm not ready for this exam.
Wendy: Why not? You've had the same opportunity to fry your mind like the rest of us...I need more coffee.

[Ashleigh enters, dragging Leigh behind her]

Leigh: Hold me up...
Ashleigh: [props Leigh against a wall as Leigh starts to fall asleep] Oh please! You slept in the car, on the steps, and in the middle of the hallway. I won't let you sleep here too. I need somebody to help me study for this exam.
Robin: Why worry? I've got no brainpower. Take a chill pill and let's blow this popsicle stand.
Leigh: [in her sleep] A popsicle sounds nice right now...
Jon: Anyone in Math 206? I have to remember all my formulas or I'm really going...[to himself] rate times time equals distance... [to others] nowhere fast.

[Shane enters, and crosses excitedly to Robin]

Shane: Come on, I've got the Bangles tape!
Robin: I've got you beat there. "Purple Rain" by Prince rocks!
Wendy: Prince? With a name like that, he'll never survive!
Jon: [flipping pages frantically] Oh, I'll never remember all this. Will you guys keep it down?
Wendy: We're trying to study here!
Leigh: [sliding down the wall] Okay, okay, I'm awake. Just let me sit down somewhere and re-read Moby Dick...

[musical number begins]
