Greetings in the matchless name of Jesus! The Lord has instructed me
to include a page on hearing His voice. I will include all that the
Lord will instruct me to include (as He reveals it to me). In the
meantime, He wants me to share the basics.
When I first came to know the Lord, I used to agonize about whether or
not I was hearing Him correctly. I wanted so badly to be in His perfect
will (which has not changed in 22 years!), which meant knowing that I was
hearing what He was telling me in all aspects of my life. When I finally
knew that I knew that I knew that I DID hear His voice, I realized that
I had been hearing Him my entire life. Here are some simple ways you can
facilitate hearing Him:
1. Read the written word:
The people who wrote the Bible, wrote what they wrote because it
is what they heard the Lord speaking, word for word. When the Lord
speaks to us in our spirits, He speaks/sounds the same as He does in
writing. Familiarize yourself with how He sounds by reading His
written word.
2. Turn off the voice of the world:
Do you want to hear what God has to say or do you want to hear what
the world has to say? The Lord is calling all Christians to TURN OFF
the voice of the world - I know many who are literally throwing away
their television sets. Turn off your TV, brethren. Don't watch worldly
movies. Don't listen to music that doesn't worship and praise your King.
3. Get quiet before Him:
Go into your secret place and be still before Him. Enter into His gates
with thanksgiving, His courts with praise. Worship Him lovingly, and then
sit quietly before Him and hear the voice of the Lord.
4. Proclaim His Word:
The Bible says that we are to call those things that are not as though they
are. Start proclaiming His promises aloud that speak specifically about
your ability to hear. Remember faith cometh by hearing...hearing by the Word
of God...which means faith cometh by hearing the Word of God spoken aloud.
When you proclaim His word out of your mouth, it not only builds your
faith, but you are decreeing His promises. And, the Lord Himself is
faithful to perform His own word. So when you speak what He speaks, He
has to do what He spoke (understand?).
There is no 'special formula' or specific number of times you have to
speak the following proclamations aloud. You don't want to do anything
'religiously'. Most authors suggest 3 times/day. I have been taught of
the Lord to do all things as He instructs. However since the point of
this is to HEAR His voice, perhaps beginning with speaking the following
aloud (at least) 3 times each day would be wise!
