This page is NOT, by any means, a complete resource...just a list of my favorite pages *I* go to when I'm looking for a new job. In any case, good luck in your search!
Lame! I used to send people to Resumix to do their resumes but they turned it into an annoying site and apparently don't offer their free resume building tool anymore. Sorry.
I've gotten the most calls from Dice. This huge database specializes in technical positions but has other categories too, I believe. Very nice option to post your resume or provide a URL to it. Over 700 companies advertise and actively recruit here. Their form is very thorough...I especially appreciate the checkbox that asks you if you're willing to relocate or not, something that many job databases do not have. However, whether or not the recruiter actually *sees* that part is anyone's guess.
Not as slick and easy to read as Dice, this site offers job listings in a several different industries, acct'g, finance, healthcare and insurance. My main complaint with this site is its simple search engine returns all the jobs in a one-line link. Very hard to read the job titles since you have to filter out the date and company first. The link looks like this, except it's all on one line:
20-NOV-97 -- Framework Technologies Corporation -- Senior Software Developer -- Lebanon
However difficult to read, there are many features and links, most notably several women centered alliances such WITI, which has its own WITI search site and Advancing Women Career Center, with its own site also.
The Monster Board is a typical database of jobs but they provide alot of services, like the Job Search Agent, which emails you descriptions of jobs you want, Relocation and Apartment search, nationally as well as internationally. Monster Board seems more fun than any other dbs, with cute monsters like Swoop, the Personal Job Search Agent. I'll probably look here in addition to the others I use.
2.19.98 UPDATE: the Newmark list has now evolved into listfoundation.org, which means that they're now charging to post a job. Not cool since many postings are from people within companies or independents. I expect the number will decrease significantly. That's unfortunate.
Craig Newmark and his Craig's List was profiled on TV some time back, as well as the AP press and SF Chronicle. Originally a small email list to keep his friends aware of social stuff, the list grew to over 200...and expanded from there. And it's not only a job listing site, you can find an apartment or a date here, including a calendar of events. An eclectic mix of jobs...more informal than the others, but still has many listings. The most interesting one I saw was a rock band looking for a a tour manager. See? Eclectic but if you're looking for a change, this is the place to check out!
Covers major metropolitan areas. This site wasn't working when I created this page...11.20.97.
