Here's Reg, former member of the medal-winning, now defunct, US Team. Two members of the Team have begun talks but have not publicly performed yet. Here he is, doing the famous "assuming the position". |
9.7.96 - Here we are after our big water fight. (l-r: Claire, Kerry, me) We planned to have a water fight before Claire returned to England, so I invited friends over for a BBQ at the Asilomar place. It was perfect for an ambush! The balcony overlooked the front door, so when they rang the bell, I grabbed my gun, ran up and out onto the patio and soaked them from above. They had no place else to go but back down the stairs! Victory!
I saw them again at a BACD bonfire in Santa Cruz in July 97. I hid my gun beneath my jacket and planned to nonchalantly show up and catch my friend unarmed but Claire was ready! The sneaky Brit had hidden squirt guns under their blanket...she didn't think I'd brought my gun but as I got closer, we both pulled out our guns and chased each other down the beach, screaming and squirting each other mercilessly. Needless to say, we were soaked, but we had a roaring fire to toast our wet butts!
April 98 - Claire was back in full force. Wen pulled together a party at her house to showcase Mardi and Rose, aka the Velvet Janes. We pull up and not thinking, I carefully parked my car. I should've jumped out and started shooting because I gave the Brit plenty time to get her gun. My tiny water pistol was no match for her super soaker!
Days later, Liz and I went over for dinner but good thing I wasn't driving! Claire was waiting for my car and didn't recognize Liz's. We walk up to the house and find a very guilty looking Claire, who was on the porch and surrounded with water balloons. She had spent an hour filling over 50 balloons! There were balloons lining the driveway, street, window sill, bushes and trees! Thank GOD I wasn't driving! Ooh, what a sneak!
"We were never shut out!"We were down at the end of the season, but our plucky team, the Bat Grrlz, always looked to the bright side. Born out of one woman's post to ba-sappho, we all gathered to form a close-knit team. Although we didn't win any games (well, one forfeit), we learned alot, played hard and had fun. Most of the team are returning for the fall season, and some of us will try our hand at volleyball. |
