Welcome to my Comic Bookstore and Reviews page! It won't always be comic books but since that's the majority of books I read, it's a pretty safe bet. =)

You've noticed that I referred to this page as my "bookstore". I'm not *really* selling books...I don't have an inventory, a staff or anything. My reviews are linked to Amazon.com. If you buy the titles I've reviewed, I get a percentage back. Cool, huh? But you have to buy the titles I've talked about via the links from my page. To order, simply click on the icon. It'll take you directly to the ordering page and I'll get the credit for that book you just bought. It's that easy! But hey! There's no obligation to buy...I would've done this without incentives but it's a nice benefit. =)

Why do I like shopping at Amazon.com?

* Great site...easy search engine
* Cool services such as:
The Eye, which emails you when your favorite author has a new book
Recommendation Center...this is amazing, you'll have to see for yourself.
* Usually 20% off publisher price
* Excellent customer service
* Sent right to your door (or anywhere you specify)
* Great way to get holiday gifts to people you won't see (they even gift wrap!)

After all the games shows throughout the years, I've always wanted to say this and thanks to Amazon.com, I finally can...ahem...

There was a huge void when Calvin and Hobbes left the comic scene...until Jim Toomey saved the day with Sherman's Lagoon, a hilarious view of sea life in the Kapupu Lagoon. You'll love Sherman, the constantly hungry shark who's slightly dense but totally loveable, Fillmore, the sea turtle philosopher, who appears stable but has his wild side too, Hawthorne, the crab with lots of attitude, goes around pinching toes and well, being a crab. You'll also love Toomey's art, a true compliment to his sense of humor.

Don't believe me? Go read a few of the dailies...you won't be sorry.

Another of my favorites, Rose Is Rose is a wonderfully drawn cartoon of Rose's life and the magic that occurs. Rose, the devoted wife and mother, loves Jimbo and Pasquale and daydreams of being a biker babe. Pasquale, the kid, sees the world from fresh eyes. He's aided by his guardian angel and is blessed with his parent's love. You'll frequently glimpse when the adults are transported to their childhood. Wonderful and unique, this is an excellent cartoon.

I see you're skeptical...go read some strips on the Rose is Rose web site.

I fell in love with Mutts as I was leafing through the SJ Mercury Comics section. Excited by a comic I've never seen, I eagerly opened Monday's comic section and looked for Mutts. Wah! The Murky saw fit to only run it in the Sunday edition. Boo! Luckily, a quick search revealed that Amazon.com had it! You betcher butt I ordered it! Patrick McDonnell's simple, yet very cute and endearing characters, Earl the dog and Mooch the cat are friends despite surrounding pressures to be enemies. Earl is the level headed one of the two and gets the big picture. His devotion to Ozzie, his human and Mooch will touch your heart. A must get!

Unlike anything I've ever read, Bone will take you to another world, to another time. This delightful story follows 3 cousins, Fone Bone, Phoney Bone and Smiley Bone, who are kicked out of town. Fone is the romantic and protective one of the bunch. Phoney Bone is the scammer and the reason they were all booted out. Smiley Bone is a simpleton who carries out Phoney Bone's devious schemes. Separated and lost, they make their way to a hamlet where Fone meets and falls in love with Thorn. You'll meet Grandma, the cow racing woman and the mystical Red Dragon. Jeff Smith weaves the story so well that I go to comic book conventions to search for hard to find Bone stuff. Read it, get hooked...thank me later.

  • There's a 3rd book but I can't find it!

    Adam has catapulted straight into my Top 10 with his lazy view of the world. Working from home, Adam is faced with society's prejudice against stay-at-home dads. Assumed that he's good for nothing, Adam is anything but. He cleans the house, takes care of 3 kids, runs carpools, while working from home as a writer...even organized a weight loss competition among his baby's playgroup. A hit with anyone with kids, even if you don't have any, Adam will definitely make you smile.
