WENDY'S WITCH WEB
RITUALS
CASTING OF THE CIRCLE - In Witchcraft, before beginning any
spell or ritual we define a new space and a new time by casting a protective circle. When we cast a circle, we
create an energy form, a boundary that limits the movements of subtle forces. It is not so much to keep negative
energies out as to keep in power so that it can rise to a peak. The casting of the circle is the formal
beginning to a ritual. Here is a simplified version of the casting of a circle:
* Light five white candles to represent the points of a pentagram and place them in a circle.
* Think of your favourite colour. Imagine it as a ribbon of light circling around you.
* Walk around the circle and draw it with a wand, or with salt, or by sprinkling salt water.
* Say these words as you walk round the circle again.
"By the Earth that is Her body and by the air that is Her breath
And by the fire of Her bright Spirit and by the living waters of her womb
The Circle is cast."
GROUNDING AND CENTERING - This is a visualisation
technique, and one of the basic techniques of magick.Grounding means to establish an energy connection with
the earth. It is important because it allows you to draw on the earth's vitality rather than depleting your own. When
channeling energy, iy serves as a psychic lightning rod - forces run through you into the earth, rather than
"burning out" your mind and body.
Visualise a pole extending from the base of your spine into the center of the earth. Center yourself by
aligning your body along its center of gravity. Breathe from your center - from your diaphragm and
abdomen. Feel the energy flow up from the earth and fill you.
BINDING A SPELL - When you have finished casting a spell, it is essential that you bind the spell to "set it" to
ensure the law of threefold return.Tell yourself that you are setting the form of the spell, as a clay pot is set
when it is fired. Say:
"By all the power of three times three
This spell bound around shall be.
To cause no harm, nor return on me.
As I do will, so mote it be."
CLOSING A CIRCLE - Finishing the ritual is just as important as performing it. Look to each of the five candles
of your circle and thank the God(ess) for helping and encouraging your ritual or spell. Say:
"I thank you for your presence, for your circle, for light and love and for night and change.
The circle is open but unbroken and I ask for your blessing. Hail and depart
Blessed Be."
