Friday, September 11, 1903 |
Started for Portland Oregon to take a homestead. Hate to |
leave the loved ones. |
Monday, April 13, 1903 |
Got to Spokane Wash. at 7:30 A.M. Walked over the city and |
at 4:15 P.M. started for Biggs on the O.R. & N. R.R. Got there |
at 4 A.M. and laid on the floor until morning. |
Tuesday, April 14, 1903 |
Took the local train at 2 P.M. for Shaniko. Arrived there at 8 |
P.M. |
Wednesday, April 15, 1903 |
Started for Silver Lake with three teams. Traveled south 45 |
miles. Fine scenery but could not get a place to stay all night |
on account of people being afraid of the small pox. We finally |
got a place to sleep in a barn and paid 50 cents a piece for |
our breakfast. |
Thursday, April 16, 1903 |
Got lost on a wrong road in the forenoon and traveled across |
a desert all afternoon no water be found. Got to Deschutes or |
Bend at 12 o'clock that night. Paid 35 cents for breakfast |
and slept in a barn. Paid $1.25 for hay for each team. |
Saturday, April 18, 1903 |
Got to Silver Lake tonight and got a good place to stay all |
night. |
Tuesday, April 21, 1903 |
I filed on a homestead. Did not get the claim I wanted but |
must make the best of it now. We started back to Shaniko. It |
rained and we got all wet had a hard time to get a place to |
stay all night. |
