gone. |

I went over to Rice Lake to look after the hay over there. The |
fire came and I fought it all day alone and without anything to |
eat. Saved nine stacks out of ten but it was the hardest day I |
ever put in fighting fire a day I shall always remember. |

The towns of Poekgoma, Hinckley and Sandstone were |
totally destroyed by forest fires over 500 people were burned |
to death. It was the worst holocaust that has ever happened |
in the history of the county. |

I went over on the big island and went all over it. Had not |
been over it for six years. Took my last boat ride I guess for |
some time anyway on Farm Island Lake. |
Friday, September 28, 1894 | 20 years afterward - |
I started home once more. Got there the 29. they were all | 1914 - and sometimes |
glad to see me. Sunday the 30 I went up to see Manda. We | don't yet |
went to church and then I stayed until 12 o'clock. She |
seemed glad to see me but would not say much. I don't know |
what to make of her. |
