Rainbow Bridge

MY RAINBOW BRIDGE FRIENDS

The saddest sound in the universe is the .. last heartbeat.

For my beloved pets and kitty friends
who have gone to the Rainbow Bridge.
You will forever have a place in my heart.

The Story of the Rainbow Bridge

AUTHOR UNKNOWN

THERE IS A BRIDGE CONNECTING HEAVEN AND EARTH.
IT IS CALLED THE "RAINBOW BRIDGE" BECAUSE OF ITS MANY COLORS.
JUST THIS SIDE OF THE RAINBOW BRIDGE THERE IS A LAND OF MEADOWS,
HILLS AND VALLEYS WITH LUSH GREEN GRASS.

WHEN A BELOVED PET DIES, THE PET GOES TO THIS PLACE.
THERE IS ALWAYS FOOD AND WATER AND WARM SPRING WEATHER.
THE OLD AND FRAIL AMIMALS ARE YOUNG AGAIN.
THOSE WHO ARE MAIMED ARE MADE WHOLE AGAIN.
THEY PLAY ALL DAY WITH EACH OTHER.

THERE IS ONLY ONE THING MISSING.
THEY ARE NOT WITH THEIR SPECIAL PERSON WHO LOVED THEM ON EARTH.
SO EACH DAY THEY RUN AND PLAY UNTIL THE DAY COMES
WHEN ALL THOSE PETS YOU HAVE LOVED
SUDDENLY STOP PLAYING AND LOOK INTO THE DISTANCE.
THEIR BRIGHT EYES ARE INTENT; THEIR EAGER BODIES QUIVER.
SUDDENLY THEY BEGIN TO RUN FROM THE GROUP,
FLYING OVER THE GREEN GRASS, THEIR LEGS CARRYING THEM FASTER AND FASTER.

YOU HAVE BEEN SPOTTED, AND WHEN YOU AND YOUR SPECIAL FRIENDS MEET,
YOU TAKE THEM IN YOUR ARMS AND EMBRACE IN A JOYUS REUNION,
NEVER TO BE PARTED AGAIN. THE HAPPY KISSES RAIN UPON YOUR FACE,
YOUR HANDS AGAIN CARESS THE BELOVED HEADS
AND YOU LOOK ONCE MORE INTO THE TRUSTING EYES OF YOUR PETS,
SO LONG GONE FROM YOUR LIFE BUT NEVER ABSENT FROM YOUR HEART.

THEN YOU CROSS RAINBOW BRIDGE TOGETHER.
NEVER AGAIN TO BE SEPARATED.

The Story of the Rainbow Bridge (Version 2)

The young pup and the older dog
lay on shaded sweet grass
watching the reunions.
Sometimes a man, sometimes a woman,
sometimes a whole family
would approach the Rainbow Bridge,
to be greeted by their loving pets
and cross the bridge together.

The young pup playfully nipped
at the older one.
"Look! Something wonderful is happening!"
The older dog stood up and barked,
"Quickly. Get over to the path."
"But that's not my owner,"
whined the pup, but he did as he was told.
Thousands of pets surged forward
as a figure in white
walked on the path toward the bridge.

As the glowing figure passed each animal,
that animal bowed it's head in love and respect.
The figure finally approached the bridge,
and was met by a menagerie of joyous animals.
Together, they all walked
over the bridge and disappeared.

The young pup was still in awe.
"Was that an angel?" he whispered.
"No, son." The older dog replied.
"That was more than an angel.
That was a person who worked rescue."

The Story of the Rainbow Bridge (Version 3)

The Rainbow Bridge
(for those alone and without a friend in this life...)

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth.
It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors.
Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge,
there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place.
There is always food and water, and warm Spring weather.
Those old and frail animals are young again.
Those who have been maimed are made whole again.
They play all day with each other.

Some of them here are different.
They were beaten, starved, tortured, and unloved.
They watch wistfully as their friends leave one by one,
to cross the bridge with their special person.
For them there is no one, no special one.
Their time on earth did not give them one.

But one day, as they run and play,
they notice someone standing by the road to the bridge.
This person wistfully watches the reunions of friends,
for in their life, they had no pet.
They were beaten, starved, tortured, and unloved.

As they stand there alone, one of the unloved pets comes up to them,
curious as to why this one is alone.
And as the they get nearer to each other,
a miracle occurs,
for these are the ones who were meant to be together.
Their special person,
their beloved pet, although on Earth they never met.
With the meeting of two souls,
the pain and the sorrow disappears,
and two friends are together.

Then they cross the Rainbow Bridge together,
never again to be separated.

An Old Russian Prayer

Hear our prayer, Lord, for all animals,
May they be well-fed and well-trained and happy;
Protect them from hunger and fear and suffering;
And, we pray, protect specially, dear Lord,
The little cat who is the companion of our home,
Keep her safe as she goes abroad,
And bring her back to comfort us.

The Prayer of the Cat

O my master !

Don't take me for a slave

Because I have a taste of freedom within myself

Don't try to guess my secrets

Because I have a taste of mystery within myself.

Don't force me to be petted

Because I have a taste of modesty within myself

Don't humiliate me

Because I have taste of pride within myself

Dont abandon me

Because I have a taste of faithfulness within myself

Know how to love me and I'd know how to love you

Because I have a taste of friendship within myself.

A Poem
Author Unknown

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep.

I purred to you so softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you - I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea.
You were thinking of the many times your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today, your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wished I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, you tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "it's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.

It's possible for me to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over now ... I smile and watch you yawning,
And say "goodnight, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand there side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out ... then come home to be with me.

My special friends who have crossed to the Bridge.

"And the Lord asked, "Are you ready" And we said "No,No"
And then the Lord reached down and gently wiped our tears

And softly said, "But she is"
And as the sun peeked through the clouds
He took her"

Gizmo, my lap cat, my sweety. Born in June, 1993
Died November 24th. 1999.
I miss him very much.

Cyber friends who have gone to the Bridge.

Buddy was my "sweet" kitty. She came to my home, with her brothers, sisters, mom and two aunts, when she was only a few weeks old. I knew right away that she would stay. The other cats and kittens were placed in loving homes. Buddy stayed with us. I wanted her to be an indoor only cat but her Abby/manx spirit was to curious to stay in. She usualy stayed by the house sometimes hunting in the park nearby. She was very independent. She produced some stunning kittens. I had her spayed when she was three. She was very loved and is sorely missed.
On Aug. 8th. 1995, early in the a.m., a car took her life.
She was eight years old. I miss her so.

Picture of Dodger

This is Dodger. She came to live with us in the fall of 1993. She went over the Bridge in Oct. of 1995. She was a stray 3mo. old kitten, found in a factory parking lot on a rainy cold night. I took her because I had other kittens that needed medication. We took care of all of them at the same time. She liked to play with nightcrawlers. When the kids brought in the nights "catch" she would use her paw to flip them out of the bucket while they washed up. She never ate them, just liked to play with them.
I miss you "little green eyes".

How can I say good-by when I don't know where you are. You were born here in 1990 and were such a playful beautiful kitten. In 93 you were stollen and I heard that you were dead but I have no proof. The mean and cruel creatures who took you were mad because you walked across their yard. I should have kept you in but I didn't really expect then to steal and murder you. Jim and Jody Johnson the wheel turns and your evil will come back on you a thousand times over.

Clyde Big Paws was a friend from the net. I never really met him but I still morn his passing. It was very quick and unexpected. He developed kidney failure and was gone within a week. He has his own web site and you should go there if you can. It is very unusual and has lots of fun things to do. Clyde's human is leaving his site in cyber-space as a memorial to him.Clyde Site
Clyde went to the Rainbow Bridge on Aug 4th 1997,at 1:10 p.m.
I will miss you Clyde.

My best friend on the Cat net has passed away. He first showed signs of illness in late July. Here is something I wrote for him. It is my special tribute to a sweet, dear kitty friend. I will always remember him and hold him dear in my heart.Chazot

Mr. Magoo

May 1993-Sept. 2007

In May of 1993 Magoo and his 2 brothers, Heathcliff and Gizmo, and his sister Mounge, came to us from a farm. They were all sick with eye infections. We took them to the vet and got medication. The others recovered fully from the infection but Magoo had one eye that never quite recovered. That is how he got his name. As the years passed his eye slowly clouded over and he could no longer see out of it. He also developed FUS. We had to watch his food closley.
On Thursday, Sept.20, 2007 he was outside and he vanished. He didn't wander very far anymore, he was 14 and half blind. This last year he had stayed by the house sleeping and watching the birds.
That day he was resting by the house when I saw him last. He didn't come in that night and he was not there the next morning. We never saw him again. We tried everything to find him,put up posters, called animal control, the humane society, drove the area, but nothing.
I miss you my friend and hope you did not suffer. You will forever have a special place in my heart.

It Was Just My Time

It's not your fault I've gone away.
It's nothing that you did that day.
It was just my time.

I sat on the step and said good by,
didn't you see it in my eye?
It was just my time.

My old body was not to good,
my eyes didn't work as they should.
It was just my time.

Please don't cry
or grieve and sigh.
It was just my time.

I waited till the time was right
and walked till I was out of sight.
It was just my time.

I have no regrets about my life.
You gave me love and never strife.
It was just my time.

I'll be there in your heart,
of you I'll always be a part.
But for now, it was just my time.

Magoo

DIGGER

Digger was a Shetland sheepdog. Born in June of 94. He passed to the Bridge around 7:30 am, on July 14,2005. What a sad month this has been. Digger was very sick and passing was a relief from pain for him. I am sure he is running through a meadow trying to heard the cats again. He was a good dog and we will all miss him.

where old friends go
