Steak and Shake Chili
Thanks to Stacey for this recipe!!
- 2T oil
- 1 1/2 lb ground beef
- 1/2 t salt
- 1 can onion soup (I use Campbell's
french onion)
- 1 T chili powder
- 2 t ground cumin
- 1/2 t pepper
- 2 t cocoa
- 2 cans kidney beans (I use 3 cans- 1 of hot chili beans)
- 1 (6oz) can tomato
paste
- 1 (8oz) can tomato sauce
- 1 cup cola (not diet!)
- Brown ground beef and salt in oil.
- Put soup in blender, blend for 1 minute.
-
Add all to crock pot. Drain beef and beans before adding to pot.
- Let simmer
on low for 6 hours or on high for 2hours.
-
NOTE: this recipe originally called for the entire dish to be prepared in
the skillet that you warm through for an hour. We enjoy it this way mor
because the beans are more tender and the seasonings more pronounced. Most
importantly, I am too busy and I am a crock pot fan.

Mark's Schilling Chili
Thanks to Mark from Maryland for this recipe.
- The basic recipe is one pouch of the spice mix
"McCormick (East Coast) or Schilling (Western US)"
added to one pound of ground beef, two 8 ounce cans of tomato sauce and one 15 ounce can of kidney beans.
- I dress the basic up with one green or red pepper, diced. Half bottle of beer. One small to medium onion, diced and sometimes split the recipe with one half can of black beans and one half can of kidney beans.
Mark would like a recipe that will make chili similar to the
"McCormick
(East Coast) or Schilling (Western US)" brands of spice mix.
Would also
love to know what is in the spice mix.
