1999 INAUGURAL

LINKS DAY ON THE LINKS

CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT

Welcome Fellow Golfers:

43 percent of people with the lowest literacy skills live in poverty; 17 percent receive food stamps, and 70 percent have no job or a part-time job. Children's literacy levels are strongly linked to the educational level of their parents, especially their mothers. Illiteracy, hunger, poverty and homelessness are completely intertwined.

We, the Macon, Georgia Chapter of The Links, Incorporated are working to attack hunger, homelessness and hopelessness at its root causes. The old adage says: "Give a person a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a person to fish, and he will eat for a lifetime." Through advocacy, education, and volunteerism we provide hope that someday we can end hunger and homelessness permanently.

The proceeds from the inaugural Links Day on the Links Charity Golf Tournament will go to two organizations currently working to end hunger and illiteracy in our community, the Loaves and Fishes Ministry and Project Read. Donations and sponsorships are tax deductible.

Help make hunger and illiteracy a thing of the past, in our community, by joining The Links for a day of golf and fun!
