GeoCities provides a free Personal Home Page in one of 37 themed communities to anyone with access to the Web. They also offer a free GeoCities Email account to everyone that signs up for a free home page. Why do they do this?
Their philosophy is that locations on the Internet become easier to relate to when they are rich with content and closely identified with an actual idea or location. They have more than 700,000 individuals sharing their thoughts and passions with the world, and creating the most diverse and unique content on the Web.



I chose Wellesley because it's theme is women and women's issues.
As more women discover the Web, it is important to have a place to gather to share ideas, concerns, and just our lives in general. I have "met" some very interesting folks on the Web, and they have been very helpful and friendly. They're always willing to share funny stories, give advice, and just lend an ear. I think as our world becomes more automated and depersonalized, the web gives us a quick and easy way to communicate with others and to stay in touch. The themed communities here at Geocities are a great tool for this.

I became a community leader because so many people helped me when I first started building my homepage, I wanted to try and give someting back. I am by no means an expert, but I know a few things!
