Every 12 seconds a woman is beaten by her partner
60% of battered women are beaten while they are pregnant
52% of female murder victims are killed by their partners
Domestic violence is the leading cause of emergency room visits by women
Children raised in violent homes are 74% more likely to commit assault
81% of men who batter had fathers who abused their mothers

Although divorced and separated women compose 7% of the population in the U.S.,
they account for 75% of all battered women and report being battered 14 times
as often as women still living with their partners
