Yes, I know, I know, I've been living under a rock. Since the last time I updated this site, Patty has actually become famous! Her single Chief is a huge country music hit (who would have thought?) and the Dixie Chicks have recorded 2 of her songs on their latest album, Home ("Truth #2" and "Top of the World"). Welcome to all of the new fans!
That's about it... don't have any real updates... but I promise, I'll let you all know whatever news I get as soon as I get it. Thanks for visiting the site!
Update on 4/3/02:
With the new album, 1000 kisses, being officially released on April 9th, many folks are wondering what the best way is to order the CD online at a reasonable price, making sure Patty gets the best cut, and the sale benefits her and ATO directly. Here's the answer: musictoday.com is the site the record label would like you to buy from. Preorder, and be entered in a contest to win an autographed guitar from Patty! In addition, if you preorder and select the fastest shipping, the site says you'll recieve it by or on April 9th. Go order your copy!
Just in time for the new album, I've updated the Lyrics Archive to include ALL of the songs from 1000 Kisses as well as a page with all the album's lyrics on it. To see the 1000 Kisses Lyrics page, please click here, and for the page with all the albums on it just click here.
Here's what the new album looks like!
Lots of good-o news to report on 2/13/02:
First of all, ATO Records has formally added Patty to their Artists page. her section now includes a long bio/interview, new pictures, and 3 audio tracks off of 1,000 Kisses (Chief, Making Pies, and Rain). All of the lyrics to these songs have been added to the archive. There is also a Tour Date section which isn't up-to-date (there are no dates listed, while pollstar.com has a few dates up already). Check out the page at the ATO Artists page.
Secondly, it's my great pleasure to let you all know that a NEW Patty mega-site has been created. Pattygriffin.net features current news, tour dates, audio clips, lyrics, guitar tabs, a bio, message boards, and a whole ton of other stuff. This site is done by the wonderful Jen Caputo, with help from Katie (Guitar Tab Archive) and me, along with others. There is an amazing amount of information here, and I think you'll love it. This site is not a replacement for the Lyrics Archive, but you'll be able to find the same lyrics at both sites. Go check it out! pattygriffin.net

IT'S OFFICIAL!
Read ATO's press release on signing Patty to their label:
ATO RECORDS INKS DEAL WITH PATTY GRIFFIN
1000 Kisses to be released by ATO April 9, 2002
According To Our Records, the independent record label formed by Dave
Matthews, his manager Coran Capshaw, and long-time Matthews/Capshaw
associates Michael McDonald and Chris Tetzeli, is pleased to announce the
addition of singer songwriter Patty Griffin to their roster. Griffin joins
a label that includes David Gray, Gov’t Mule, Chris Whitley, and Ben
Kweller. Says ATO’s Michael McDonald about the signing, “We couldn't be
happier about having Patty as part of our family. She is one-of-a-kind. Her
songwriting kills us and she's got a voice like no one else on the planet.
We're incredibly happy to be working for her!”
ATO Records will release Patty Griffin's 1000 Kisses on April 9, 2002. The
new album is her third release following two releases on A&M Records:
1997's Living With Ghosts and 1999's Flaming Red. These releases showcased
Griffin's unique voice, melodic guitar playing and most prominently her
immense talents as a songwriter which has led to artists like Emmylou
Harris, Linda Ronstadt, The Dixie Chicks, Bette Midler, and Martina McBride
to cover her songs. 1000 Kisses was produced by Griffin and Doug Lancio
(he's worked with Nanci Griffith, Steve Earle and others). The album, for
the most part, is minimally arranged with just vocal and guitar, but sounds
more lush than sparse largely in part to Griffin's beautifully evocative
voice high in the mix. The album includes the lush Spanish standard "Mil
Besos," and Bruce Springsteen's “Stolen Car”.
Patty Griffin plans to tour extensively in support of 1000 Kisses.
Encouraging news on 9/26/01:
* I have heard from reliable sources that Patty is signing with ATO Records, the label founded by Dave Matthews (and others) which includes David Gray and three other confirmed artists. A supporitve label that would see Patty as more than just another singer in a sea of so-called "artists"? It seems almost too good to be true! Read more about this at Nancies.org. Keep your hopes up, and I'll give you more news as I get it...
Depressing, yet good, news on 6/11/01:
* First, sources have confirmed that Patty is no longer with A&M records and will not be releasing Silver Bell- at least not any time soon. I don't know if she will be able to purchase the masters to release on her own (or with another label) or if the album will just rot away in a closet somewhere. There's a good article on the subject here (but don't go until you're ready to leave this site!) The Nashville Rage. * However, in better news, Patty has told fans that she does have a new album coming out. On 6/7, she did a show in Nashville and said she would be releasing an album she recorded called "A Thousand Kisses." New songs reported to be on the new album:
- Clap Hands
- Be Careful With Me
- Chief
I promise I will post any and all new info when it comes available!
Sketchy "news" on 5/3/01:
*Well, kids... here we go. Don't quote me on this, but recent industry rumors are swirling saying that Patty has been dropped from her label and Silver Bell will NEVER be released. The rumor goes that Patty was dropped from A&M, who still owns the rights to Silver Bell, and will never release it. Remember, this is a rumor. But I've heard it from quite a few of my music industry insiders, so... I don't know. In other rumor news, word has it that Patty's looking into recording an indie release of accoustic songs. Who knows? Sorry, guys... I'll let you know if I hear anything more. *Patty will be featured this month on Austin City Limits on PBS. Check your local station or go to PBS'S Stations Listingto find out when you can see the episode.
Really crappy news on 11/29/00:
*Here we go again... Patty's management has just leaked that the release date of Silver Bell is set back to around the second week of March. That date is not final, which isn't suprising considering how many times they've delayed this album. I'm sorry, guys. I'd suggest scanning ebay or similar places to get your hands on the Silver Bell promo CD, which has 5 tracks, including 2 "new" ones (longtime fans know that Silver Bell is a very old song): Let Him Fly Tony Silver Bell Standing Mary (accoustic)
Not-so-good news on 7/26/00:
*Unfortunately, Patty has been saying lately that the new album, Silver Bell, will not be out until January. Keep your fingers crossed and read on for more info...
Huge news updated on 6/13/00:
Wouldn't a 14 song album be wonderful? More updates as I get them...
The latest news as of 5/8/00:
*Patty will be opening for The Dixie Chicks on most of their tour dates this summer! Check out Pollstar to find a show near you :) *A fan and MM member recently approached Patty about doing some sort of question & answer session with the Mad Missionaries *g*. Watch the list for more info! *Patty's still recording new music in Nashville for the new album, which is slated for releasec in late fall. Stay tuned...
Here's the latest scoop from Patty's management as of 2/9/2000:
*Patty is doing an online chat at The Sessions at West 54th website at 9PM EST on Feb. 9, 2000. Click on "chat with Patty Griffin" to get there. The transcript of the chat will be made available afterwards on the site also. *Patty's currently working on a new CD with Jay Joyce and Craig Ross co-producing. Recording should be finished around the end of March, and as of yet there is no release date. The tracks being recorded haven't yet been made known to the public :) *Patty will be playing a benefit show in Los Angeles on March 29. Check Pollstar for more info. *Patty will do a gig with Emmylou Harris on July 4th in Washington, DC as part of a show put on by the park service. *A new Web-zine called MoxieGirl is using "Blue Sky" in their TV commercials which are airing now on the WB during shows like Dawson's Creek and Felicity, and also on MTV. Patty is featured on the MoxieGirl web site (look right up on top) with her standard bio and a little piece about how the ste chose Patty for their ads.
