The tyranny of love is that we all are hurt.
The irony is that we come back for it again.
If love were not to hurt, would we fall so many times?
And why always the same type of men?
When we are little we fall and get hurt.
So we learned to tie our shoes lest we trip.
But as adults we keep falling, making that same mistake.
Like a leaky faucet that continues to drip.
Falling in love again, how does it happen?
Can we flip some magical switch?
If we could, how many times would we throw it?
Love is strange, what’s the hitch?
Interesting that we all rush to find love.
It’s ironic that into and out of love we fall.
Considering that we got hurt when we fell as kids.
Didn’t we learn any lessons at all?
Love is a wonderful thing, it’s electric.
It starts in your heart and spreads.
It’s warm and fuzzy and inexpressible.
Falling again is not something to dread.
As kids, it hurts so bad because we were embarrassed.
But if we gave up where would we be?
Mom brushed our tears away and got a Band-Aid.
And rode the bike down the hill again with glee.
The tyranny is that it will only hurt if we let it.
The irony is that we don’t have to do it another time
Love hurts and that’s how we learn.
And our lives are not always sublime.
