The Distant Love

A decision was made that she
Would leave behind all that she treasured.
Everything in the world she cherished most.
Family, country and happiness unmeasured.

She did not want to leave the Halle.
Her life had started there in abundance.
And the memory of her parents, a most precious gift.
Not knowing the future, she was in a trance.

Henry wrote a letter and asked her to come
To a new family, a new country and new memories.
There was a moment that she hung back.
A trepidation for what lay across the seas.

She promised her brother she'd return.
Only two years and then she'd be back.
On a boat called the Manchuria she sailed.
Spending most of the trip with Irene on the deck.

It was not long before she knew what America meant
It was freedom's sweet temptation and with the promise
that she made to Richard fogotten.
she gave in to Ephriam's gentle embrace and kiss.

America, the land of opportunity held
New memories for her to know.
And the lasting love she shared with us
Started in a different country many years ago.
