The Impeachment of the President

A poem

President Carter called to offer support
for our president’s prelude to an historic day in court.
T’was 19 December ’98 when William Clinton was impeached.
And the public’s confidence in the House was breached.

Early that day Speaker-elect Livingston stood to speak in the well
And dropped another historic bombshell.
He plead with the president to resign in attrition
And to everyone’s surprise brought his own goals to that fruition.

Meanwhile across the globe in the middle of the night.
The people in Iraq lived in fright.
Clinton soon called off the bombs
And the sky was once again calm.

Then Hyde delivered the articles to the Senate Secretary.
Soon one hundred persons will become one jury.
The fate of the President of the United States lies there.
Culminating this event that is certainly rare.

The president called for an end to the “politics of personal destruction”.
Maybe then our system could properly function.
If the “poisonous venom of partisan politics” ended,
perhaps then, our country’s pride could be better defended.

Clinton and Blair called for an end to the Desert Fox offensive.
The “Villains of the Arabian Desert” had accomplished their objective.
America’s leader showed on his face the stress and strain.
His schedule for the past week an emotional and physical drain.

The democrats showed their support for their party head.
The republicans gathered support for a new speaker before bed.
As Americans shopped for a last minute Christmas gift.
We all began to feel a growing rift.

NOTE: Thanks to President Clinton's speach on December 19th and President Hussein's speach on, I think, December 17th for the great quotes.
