Where'd they come from?

They weren't on the Mayflower.
Nor were they Cajuns or Quakers.
They didn't help found Jamestown.
Nor were they criminals or Shakers.

They did not eat the first Thanksgiving Dinner.
Nor sign the Independence Declaration.
They were not here to see the North become a winner.
Nor did they wittness the Emancipation Proclaimation.

They came from lands of ice and snow.
Lands of winter chill and politics plenty.
To America they rode the tide of immigration flow.
And most arrived before the nineteen hundred twenties.

They did not help to build the great railroad.
Nor did they fight at the Little Big Horn
They could not "remember the Alamo".
Nor did they ever know that I'd be born.

From Norway, Germany and the Ukraine they came.
To a land that promised shelter from the strife.
My ancestors have no claim to fame,
Other then they started my life.
