President's Message

Thank you for visiting the website of the Muhlenberg Area Women of Today! I am honored to have been elected their president for the 2002-2003 year. My theme is "We’re Sticking Together" and that is exactly what we are doing. The members of the chapter help with projects, and in the process have become closer friends. Laughter is regularly at any Women of Today event. We are having fun being part of this group.

One of the wonderful parts of our club is unity. The heart of our organization is fellowship, and it shows by looking at the projects and events we have done. Over 15 members of the group helped with the Roses for Mother’s Day project. Some donated physical time, while others helped by donating items, but most importantly we worked together and helped over 50 mothers have a special Mother’s Day! We also lend a hand to each other. We stuck together and helped our fellow member Rhonda move. We were all excited when our member Wendy announced her pregnancy, and cried when long-time member Sharon told us she was moving from the area.

The community service work we do is outstanding. In 2 months we donated over $2,500.00 in money and items to local individuals and charities. We are committed to helping the needy. Currently we have started doing a monthly "Buckets of Sunshine" for local individuals in need. We fill a bucket with items that will be useful and make the individual/organization’s day brighter. We gave a "bucket" with cat litter and cat food to the Humane Society. We delivered a bucket with twin sheets and to Mary’s Shelter. In addition, we are in the process of delivering a "bucket" to the local senior center after we heard they were in need of small bingo prizes. We did a basket bingo and donated 100% of the proceeds to local charities including Berks Co. Make-a-Wish Foundation and the Lupus Foundation.

Most of our members are workingwomen who joined for various reasons. The time each person donates to the organization varies and is greatly appreciated. Every member brings a special personality trait that makes us stronger. In addition, we offer personal development courses to help strengthen ourselves.

I urge you to read our wonderful month newsletter. They are filled with articles about the various projects we do, local charities we help, and information about our State and National Officers. One of my goals as president is to keep everyone informed of activities, and the newsletter has certainly helped to achieve this goal.

Thank you for visiting and I hope you have learned about our organization and the wonderful things we do. I encourage you to explore more of the opportunities we offer by contacting myself dihitt@msn.com or membership program manager Cheryl Whitehead.
