NAME: Dee Bruch

EMAIL: LadyWulf@bigfoot.com

OCCUPATION: I am an EMT-D in the state of Connecticut, though I no longer reside there.I am currently enrolled in Delaware Technical Community College. I am working toward my AA in Computer Informations Systems Programming and Mainframe. And look forward to graduating in May of 1999

BIO: I am a 33 year old mother of two. I was born into the "fire/ems services" family. My great grandfather was the first paid chief in the state of N.J. Almost all of my family have been or are involved in either fire or ems over the years. I grew up dreading passing an accident,or hearing the "tones" because I knew they would"take daddy away from us for a while".

When I was married, I encouraged my husband to join the fire service. He was interested, but felt he "couldnt do that stuff, you gotta know what you are doing!" . He soon found out , not only could he do it, but he excelled at it. Though we are no longer together, I am truely proud of his accomplishments which are many.

When my second child was old enough to attend school full time, I set out to become a fire fighter. The town we resided in was small, and the fire dept there, was a member of the "old boys network". In other words... "Females have no right to be parading around in Bunkers and pretending to be able to do our job!"

I fought, long and hard to try and prove that theory wrong.I foolishly gave up that fight in 1994.I felt it was both draining my psycological resources and demeaning me more and more daily.

The fight I worked so hard at, though did not go unrewarded. There is now a female line officer in that department, and quite a few females who are "inside firefighters" I salute each and every one of them for the guts it took to stand up to those "dinosaurs" and win their battle.

In 1992 I took my first EMS class. I received my certification for Medical Response Technician(first responder). I had finally found something I could not only excell at, but that I LOVE!!! EMS! TRAUMA! this i can DO!!!I devoted all my free time to the cause of EMS. I took any course open to me and Gained my EMT within a year.

Over the years I also gained my Defib. Cert*a seperate certification in the state of CT.* and more recently I received my P.H.T.L.S. Certification. This is a nationaly recognised cert!

In May of this year, I embarked out upon my own. After 15 years of marriage to someone who was so insecure he needed outside gratification and ego boosting on a regular basis*scary in this day and age, with all the biohaz out there!* I bolstered my courage(with the help of Samantha, and all my other friends both online and in person) and realized I am capable of better! I am now living on my own. I am enrolled in college, working toward a degree in Computer sciences*(much as I love EMS, the United States still doesnt recognise the importance ,nor the need for Higher pay and Greater reward for those who risk their lives on a daily basis to help others.)and hope soon to be able to support my family in a manner to which they will not "need" for anything.

This is an uphill battle , but my prior experience with "battling" has prepared me for the fight. I WILL win! I WILL excell! and I WILL return to the EMS field in a voluntary position once again! I encourage any and all women who are in my situation to stand tall, head high, shoulders back , look em in the eye and say "I'M YOUR "MAN" "YOU NEED ME!" "I CAN BRING SKILL TO YOUR COMPANY AND I CAN DO THE JOB!"

NEVER EVER SAY DIE!
