NAME: Michele Graham EMAIL: msrookie@hotmail.com OCCUPATION: EMT/ FF rookie BIO: My name is Michele, I am 29 years old. I am married and have 4 wonderful children. I have been a Basic EMT for 4 1/2 yrs, and have recently been hired on with the County FD where my family and I reside. Although I don't have much experience in fire fighting, I do have a strong desire to learn. I love the EMS side of public safety, however I heard a calling from the fire dept. My husband is an X volley, he loves fire, but had to get a job that paid a little more as our family grew. Because of his exposure to the field, he is aware of the physical and mental demands of my job and often helps out with the kids. I thank God each day for giving me such a wonderful man. I would like to hear from other women in the field. The training is tough, and I find days when I don't have the energy to do much more than cook dinner and study. Please feel free to give me any pointers you may have on surviving this rough time

[the beautiful "golden isles of GA. ..."] 16 years as a paid FF, 2 years Vol. service prior. [ ... it took me 2 years to convince the Chief that I was dead serious about wanting to join "the boys club..."] I didn't want to change the rules, I just wanted to play on the team ! I was the only female in a 90 man paid Dept., for my first 6 years. What a hoot !!! I'm currently the only female officer, I've been a Lt. for 5 years, and I'm # 4 on the current Capt. promotional list. I've been married for 10 years to the love of my life, and I have a 21 year old step-son who I helped raise [ I was lucky, I got him after he was allready housebroken...] Our son is a Vol. FF with my department , so that makes me Lt. Mom... I truley love what I do, and once the "good old boys" realized I just wanted to do the job, I gained 90 big brothers!!! I need some help - I'm supposed to be working on an SOG re: womens hair , and I need some guidlines,suggestions, graphics, etc. This is a HOT topic right now in our dept. , and I need to diffuse the bomb... Anything or direction you could point me in would be really appreciated. I love this site Sam, I didn't realize you were out there. Looking forward to hearing and sharing... Thanks ! "G"
