NAME: Nancy B. McAtee EMAIL: mcateen@ntsb.gov OCCUPATION: Fire and Explosion Specialist/ Vol. FF BIO: I am 26 years old.  I didn't catch the fire bug until my junior year in college.  I did an internship with the Arson/Bomb squad in Fort Worth TX my last year in college.  Then I went from becoming a doctor to becoming a fire investigator.   After finishing a B.S. in chemistry and a M.S. in forensic science, I went in search of a job.  Unfortunately, I had done things backwards.  I had no firefighting experience so no one would hire me.  I joined the local VFD in my hometome in Idaho to boost my spirits.  Six months later, I had the job of my dreams.   I now investigate fires and explosions that are the direct  cause of transportation accidents.  I am currently joining another local VFD because my job can almost seem sedate at times.  I love what I do although my father thinks I am insane (but supportive none the less).

NAME: Nelson Dunston EMAIL: nvdunsn@nv.cc.va.us OCCUPATION: Instructor, Fire Science Program, North Virginia Community College. BIO: I have been a fuul time instructor at Northern Virginia Community College since 1995 and am a lecturer in the Department of Fire Protection Engineering at the University of Maryland I am currently working on a grant proposal to develop a program to increase the number of women in the fire service and fire science in the North Virginia area. I am at the beginning stages of the proposal, but hope to get it implemented by fall 1999. I am the father of two children, on being an 8 month old daughter as of 10/98. I can see from her personality. she is going to be a remarkable woman, and should have the opportunity to persue any career she wishes, including careers in the Fire Service without any barriers I wish to help in removing those barrriers for her and other young ladies by helping to increasing the numbers of women in the fire service who will serve as role models for those coming behind them.
