Prodigal Journaler Returns

April 17, 1998

Hi,... yeah, it's me, the prodigal journaler. *chuckle* Have I been dragged away by wild horses? No... wild kitty cats, maybe. Waylaid by Jevim? I wish! Unfortunately, he's still back in another timezone. *sigh* So where've I been? Right here at the computer, for the most part. Just being lazy, and avoiding the journal for some reason.

No, I haven't decided to quit... I just go on lazy streaks now and then, and this was one of them. Actually, I guess it was Tuesday, Mom and I went to Wal-mart and I picked up a cross-stitch magazine (and Glimmering by Elizabeth Hand), and I've been on a cross stitch kick for a few days. I've had a little something that I meant to make for Connie for her birthday ... only about two weeks late now ... and I've been trying to finish it up. I have just one more color and then the backstitching to go now, so I should finish it tonight or tomorrow and get it off in the mail by Monday. Better late than never... *sheepish expression*

I also found an absolutely charming wedding ensemble in May's "The Stitchery Magazine" and I'm dying to do it... but first I need to get my hands on some Cashel linen, and also finish up the one project I'm doing on evenweave, so I've had some practice on it. Good thing I won't be getting married for another year or so... maybe I'll have a chance to get the thing finished!

While hunting around for cross-stitch stuff online, I stumbled across Teresa Wentzler's site (oh man, if you like fantasy related cross stitch, go look at her stuff!!!) and found a support group for a piece called "The Castle" that I originally started waaaaaay back when, when I was first cross-stitching. I got in over my head, to say the least, but now that I have the encouragement of knowing there are other people out there who have finished the thing -- and done it more than once -- I've hunted it out of storage, given it a bath, and once I finish the piece for Connie, I'm going to work on it a bit. I've decided to alternate between projects this time, so I don't get too frustrated. Right now, I have the castle itself, and a few of the trees just below the outer wall done; I was saving the dragon itself for last, and I'm glad I did: there is now a list of metallic filaments to use when stitching it!

Yes, I get easily sidetracked, as you can see. Last week, I wound up making new graphics for a webring that I manage, and totally reorganizing the ring, grouping together people who *are* part of the newsgroup it is related to, and then the people who aren't. All in all, it was an all-day job, but I think things worked out well.

Oh, we did get our tulips... last week! I've had three now on my desk, the first one was pink on top and white on the bottom, though it finally gave up on life earlier this week. Now I have an all white one that's still hanging on, and a new mostly red one that Mom just picked. Mom also bought me some pretty pansies last week at the grocery store; I planted some yellow ones with orange centers in the flowerbox outside my window here, and purple ones in the planter on the front step. I do love spring... And now we have a robins' nest in the branch of the big maple just outside my window. I have the feeling it's going to get noisy out there in a few weeks. I've no idea how long it takes for robin eggs to hatch, but I think that Mama Robin has laid her clutch for the year.

Jev is off playing Starcraft with some hallmates at school... I had net problems earlier, so I installed Riven and was playing that. I've got a scratch on the #2 disc that makes the computer choke every now and then, and I can't find the notebook I'd been keeping with all the information I'd found before, so I got frustrated and hopped out before I expected Jev back from his game. I'll just go drool over more Teresa Wentzler if I get this finished and uploaded.

I've had several people sign my guestbook over the past couple weeks, and I haven't gotten around to thanking any of them. If you've signed it, thank you very much. *smile* It's getting rather long, so I think I'll go ahead and split it into two pages to make it load faster.

Sorry for rambling on about whatever comes to mind... I really don't know why I've been avoiding writing. I guess I just didn't want to finish up my entry from the 9th, as it was mostly about my rotten doctor's visit last Tuesday. Not something I want to think about, y'know? I'm still waiting to hear back about the blood test and what the x-rays show, so I'm not home free quite yet.

Jevim's been kinda down recently too... worrying about how living arrangements for this summer are going to be, and whether I'll be able to come and visit, and if so, for how long. Since he's going to be renting a room from someone, I'm not going to be able to stay a month at a time, unless we're very very lucky. Neither of us is happy about that, of course... I wish I could spend the entire summer with him, especially since he'll be going back to school for fall and spring semesters. After that, he'll be done completely, and then I can move. Right now, it seems an awful long way off. We'll make it, though. That much I'm sure of!

I probably shouldn't be sitting here with that cross-stitch magazine in my lap... it's entirely toooo tempting. Okay, I tossed it back on the floor. And yes, I'm one of those messy people who 'stores' things in piles on the floor... like the winter pajamas that just didn't fit in the storage bin, and that I haven't found another space to keep, so they're taking up a couple square feet of floor space. I'm sooo organized! Anyway... I think I've run out of things to ramble about, so maybe if I can get this finished and uploaded, I can get the last color done on the cross stitch and start the outlining. I just wanna get it done and get to the castle!!! Type to you later!
