Jev and I got out again for a bit yesterday, and he picked up one of those PC gaming magazines, with a CD-ROM of demos. He installed and tried to play a few, but they must have been rather disappointing, because he didn't spend much time on any of them. I was stitching and watching The American President on cable, so I really didn't pay much attention, except to note that he eventually gave up on the demos and started playing Final Fantasy VII
There were a few ads of interest in the magazine itselve though: Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri, Civilization: Call to Power (originally by Sid Meier, but now taken over by another group), and Sim City 3000.
Alpha Centauri had a 20 MB demo on its website, so we let that download overnight, and I think we're on our sixth 100-turn game now. I think we'll get at least one copy of this game.
Civ: Call to Power is still in testing, and we both signed up to beta test it, though I'd be surprised if I get selected. My poor little Pentium 90 didn't even make the processor list, so I fudged a bit (I figure if Creatures 2, which 'requires' a P166 will run on mine...).
SC3k didn't have a demo or a chance to beta, so I guess we'll have to wait a bit on that one. Darn!
On another note, Jev should get a call from the co-op company tomorrow, letting him know if they want him to come out for a Tuesday interview. Whether we go or not (assuming they ask) will depend a bit on the weather, and if they're willing to put us up for two nights, as it's a 7 hour drive each way. It would be nice if they'd spring for a nice, comfy rental car too, but I won't hold my breath on that.
Getting to the DC area would be nice, as we both miss the big-city stores, and this will be our last chance to hit any for a while. But even if we don't go, we still have most of o ne more week together before it's back to the grindstone.
Jev should be done with his game soon, so I'm going to wrap this up.
