Look what I found can you believe it a Norman Rockwell painting of someone tattooing someone else. I saw this poster in a tattoo artist's office and I loved it took me awhile to find it on the net but, I did. The Midi is King of Pain by the Police..couldn't find anything else more fitting. I thought that the triple portrait was a good painting to choose though because we all go through many changes in our life and, each one of my tattoo's is a definate change in my life.
Here are some tips on tatooing and, the procedure. If you choose that you would like to get a tattoo first do these things:
1. Goto different tattoo parlors check them out. Check for cleanliness(VERY IMPORTANT). Look at thier floors sounds wierd I know but, check them out carpet harbors many many bacteria's.
2. When you look around look at some of thier work check out the books see if you like the kind of work they do. Each artist has a specialty some do Tribal some do color.
3. Ask about their base rate for the needles usually $20.00 then they add the extra depending on size, color, and detail of the tattoo that you want.
4. Make sure you know what you want or at least an idea. Go in a couple of times talk to the artist look around find one you like then set an appointment. They really don't like people making appointments then coming in saying "I don't know what I want".
5. Prices are usually negotiable keep that in mind. It's not like an auction but, if you want to spend $65.00 on a tattoo and they said $70.00 you can usually get the price down. I hope this helps a little. If you have questions feel free to email me I'd be glad to answer them and, if I don't have an answer I'll ask my tattoo artist.
Procedure okay they don't just use a needle it's a gun. They usually use 1 needle for the outline (the black) and they use up to 5 or more needles on coloring. Now my experience is this the outline is the more uncomfortable of the 2 but, it has a numbing effect. The larger number of needles seems to not cause pain to me feels as if someone is coloring my skin with a bic pen. They sometimes shave the area that is being tattoo'd to rid the skin of fine hairs that may obstruct thier view. Then they put the pattern on the skin and, your set to go. Now some people can't stand the sound of the gun but, personally I find it calming.
The After Care:
1. Wash with cold water and a mild soap.(I find this soothing and that if I keep washing it frequently that I don't scab half as bad.)
2. Pat dry apply bacitracin ointment once a day for 2 weeks
3. Do Not expose new tattoo to sun, chlorine, or soak it for 2 weeks.
4. If tattoo scabs DO NOT PICK IT!!(if you pick it this will be picking the color off)
My first one I ever got was on my ankle it's a blue rose I put it there because I have alot of scars from negligence on my legs and I was very very sick so it reflects that time of my life.
My second one I got it a ribbon with 2 flowers a heart and butterfly it's on my chest. That one I got in the hopes to get better to be able to breath a sigh of relief.
My third one is a tiger's head on my stomach it's for the wild times in my life and, that's all I'm going to say about that one.
My fourth one is a circle with half of the suns face and half of a crescent moon face in it with 2 stars. It's on the back of my neck directly in the center. I got this one shortly after dad passed away it's really hard for me to put into words what this one means to me but, I'll try. My universe was turned upside down when he passed away so I figured that if I put it there somewhere along the line of my life that I would find the peace that I'm looking for.
My fifth one is a small blonde haired blue eye'd cherub (he looks alot like my son) that I got right behind my right ear. He's there for me to listen to and, to always remember to listen to Logan as an added bonus I'll always have him with me.
The sixth one I just got a few days ago is a Fairy inside of a crystal ball holding a crystal ball I got her on top of my right foot. This one is my future and no matter what I'm going to have to walk through it be it good or be it bad but, I'll always have her there.
The seventh one is an Angel that is sort of in a victorian bow and arrow sort of pouch. Hard to explain anyway he takes a bit of my outside calf up. He's my warrior angel he'll help me through rough times and remind me I'm always protected.
The eighth one is an Angel on the other calf me and my artist shaped it similar to the other one on the other leg so I don't walk around with odd looking legs. We even measured to make sure they were in exactly the right spot. This angel is holding a book and a feather pen he's my Angel of knowledge to help guide me to making the most intelligent decisions I need to make it in my life.
The nineth one that I got is a small butterfly above my left ankle it's beautifully colored and his wings are not completely open it's just a half way mark that I'm making in my life that I will get to be where I need to be someday in my life.
Okay I got 2 piercings now to add to my collection. I got my eyebrow done and I got the cartiledge in your ear that's closest to your eye. The thick piece some people don't have enough to pierce but, I do. Okay the eyebrow didn't hurt it just made a popping sound that sort of made me sick to my stomach. Then it was over. The ear hurt not the actual needle going in but, they put a cork in my ear as a buffer for the needle and it got caught which hurt. For those whom do not know how they pierce here's a run through. They take a hold of the meat that you want to pierce with a surgical clamp then you choose your gauge of needle (for the Ring, post, or bar) and they shoot the needle through the hole in the clamp. The clamp has a numbing effect so it helps. UPDATE got my tongue done...didn't hurt at all infact it's fun to keep me busy a bit for now. Mostly did it just to see if I could do it or not so I did. I have a couple of hints though relax your tongue as much as possible it will go faster try not to resist that will just make it harder. Make sure you have ice on hand afterwards. I was able to eat 20 mins after I got mine done and I think it was because of the ice I used right afterwards. I didn't have much discomfort at all didn't think it was a big deal in fact getting my second holes in my ears done hurt worse to me.
