to This page is dedicated to all the "Bears By Laur" and the "beary special" people who have received them. I always loved the bears made by a Teddy Bear Company, but I always thought they were very expensive. I collect Cabbage Patch Kids and started making clothes for them. One day as I was cutting out a little outfit from my Cabbage Patch patterns, it dawned on me that *I* could probably do what that Teddy Bear Company was doing ~ only better! I raced to WalMart, picked up a bear for about $3.00, dug one of Rog's old Houlton Farm Dairy uniforms that I used for patching, and wah-lah! The very first "Bears by Laur", and his picture is below.
He really liked him and took him to work to show him off. Houlton Farms Dairy really liked him, too, and I ended up making one for them also ~ just a little different from Rog's. I realized what a great idea this was for unique gifts for people, so I made up a little logo with a space where I could number each one, and every bear I make has this little logo inside the back of their outfit. I have even written little stories that accompany them telling the receiver how they came about. I have made almost twenty now. All of them are original, and I do NOT make them for sale. I have had many, many offers, but I would never have the time, and it would, to me, take away from the specialness and uniqueness of the ones I've presented as gifts. Below are a few more that I've made. You can do this too! The recipients will be very impressed with a gift made with love, and who can resist a teddybear!! Below are Corey's Graduation Bear, Gram's Pansy Bear, Leah's "Sunny" Bear, and the family's LCR Racing Bear.
See how easy it is?! I've also made a pilot bear (complete with scarf and goggles!) for my brother who got his pilot's license, a coffeebreak bear that sat on a little wooden serving tray complete with mugs and coffee for a friend who moved away, a painter bear, complete with pallet, for a friend who paints pictures, and many others. I will do one now for another "beary" special person in my life - my new Godson, River!!
