A happy little caterpillar
Alone with my own thoughts
Until you came and scooped me up
And put me in a jar
You stared at me for days
Through this imprisoning glass
And finally I withdrew
To my safe and warm cocoon
I thought that I could be content
With your milkweed and your love
But I shall emerge a butterfly
With wings that can't be quelled
And I hope you have the courage
It takes to set me free
To let me fly to heights unknown
And call the shimmering sky my home
